Bessler's biography

Perpetual Motion; An Ancient Mystery Solved?

This was my first book and it contains a full biography of Johann Bessler’s life, with details of all the tests and examinations carried out on his various machines, as well as eyewitness reports.  It was first published in 1997 and is currently being updated.  The new version will not be ready for several months and I anticipate publication towards the latter end of 2007.  For those who wish to know all about Johann Bessler this book is ideal. It is available in both hard copy and digital format (PDF).  A copy of the cover is to the right of this text

How I came to write about Johann Bessler

In 1997 I self-published my account of Bessler’s life. It was the culmination of almost twenty-five years of research in which I visited numerous libraries and universities in the UK for information, not only about Johann Bessler , but also about people he came into contact with. What I found amazed me, as he was at the time, circa 1712, extremely well-known, or infamous, as the inventor of a so-called perpetual motion machine. Even as far back as the eighteenth century it was commonly agreed among the scientists and the well-educated that such a machine violated the principles of physics. However it was not as cut-and-dried as it is today and many of the top philosophers and teachers were sufficiently open-minded as to give the inventor a chance to prove his claims.  This he set out to do with great determination and the results were impressive. I detail these tests on a separate page,

I had originally hoped that my book would be taken up by a publisher and thus, I would be able to get the rest of the world interested in this amazing machine.  Sadly, any aspiring perpetual motionists are treated with complete scorn and derision, a fact which has always mystified me because of the opposite reaction to almost any other kind of ‘fringe’ matter requiring publication.  Subjects such as ‘aliens’, ‘ghosts’, ‘horoscopes’, ‘Atlantis’, ancient spaceships’ etc.  I’m not casting doubt on these subjects, merely suggesting that there is no more evidence of the reality of their claims than there is of Bessler’s. In fact there is substantially more evidence that Johann Bessler was not deceiving anyone and that he actually built a perpetual motion machine.  This evidence I shall briefly recount elsewhere

Although one publisher did express interest the rest were either not interested or were actually rude to me about my thesis.  The one publisher later withdrew its offer and I decided to go it alone and I published the book myself. The book in question is called, “Perpetual Motion; An Ancient Mystery Solved?” and it contains information about Bessler, his life, his claims, his machines, the test and examinations they had to  undergo and the efforts he made to sell the secret of his machine. The book is currently still available, pending the publication of my follow-up book, which will be called “The Orffyreus Code.  A Blueprint for Free Energy”.
